IWS Photoshoot — Work it.
04:36 pm by admin

Here at IWS we pride ourselves on being ridiculously good looking. For that reason, we feel compelled, nay, obligated, to document it all for the good of the general public.

Here we see Sarah Trees trying to get her Top Model on. Vic and Gabe are just trying to make some coffee.

We had Dean, our photographer extraordinaire, come take some shots of the office and take portraits of the IWS family. For days before of the photoshoot, we discussed appropriate outfits, the many ways in which Vic was going to avoid getting photographed; the many ways I was going to photobomb everyone’s picture, and, more importantly, which man-blouse Andrew should wear. On the day of the shoot, we all wore our best outfits, and non-functioning watches (but that we wanted in the pictures anyways).

We’re excited to show you the results very soon, but for now I’ll leave you with a behind-scenes look at our day in front of the cameras.

Friends or enemies. Or “frenemies”?
12:18 pm by David Haase

What will Facebook be as it expands into spaces now dominated by other tech firms like Yahoo, eBay and Google?

That’s what the Wall Street Journal was asking on Tuesday, February 15, 2011.

Here’s the gist from Geoffrey A. Fowler:

“Facebook, which has more than 600 million users and was valued at $50 billion in a recent funding round, is grabbing online-advertising from Yahoo, Myspace and others. The social network is a potential rival in electronic payments to eBay Inc.’s PayPal, while partnerships Facebook is cementing with smartphone makers set the stage for competition with Apple Inc. and Google in mobile services.

“Meanwhile, Facebook is tussling with Google and Microsoft Corp. for top engineers.”

It seems inevitable to me that as Facebook tries to keep growing, it’s going to step on toes. Big time. The friendliness will go away. Max, our CEO, says Yahoo will go away, too.

For those of us playing in the social media world, we will have to keep playing in multiple sandboxes until Facebook takes over another and another and another service. Assuming, of course, that it can.

Max takes it another step. (Can it EVER be wrong to quote your boss twice in one post?) He says the Journal piece shows how the new world works. It’s no longer TV, but your media platform. It’s no longer Facebook, but your personal brand to the world.

I think competition is always healthy, so I’m rooting for Facebook – and all its ‘frenemies’.

Finally, thanks to the Wall Street Journal for a good piece on our slice of the world

IWS Expands Content, Social Media Offerings
12:12 pm by Max Fose

Experienced Pro Assumes New Role

IWS, a digital consulting firm serving the political, corporate and trade association communities, announced a major expansion of its content development and social media services with the hiring of David L. Haase as Vice President of Social Media & Content.

Mr. Haase brings more than 15 years of digital experience and more than two decades of award-winning journalism experience to the position.

IWS currently provides first-class digital development and creative services to a range of clients, including candidates for state and Federal office, as well as major trade associations and corporate clients.

“Content is king. Adding someone of David’s caliber who can not only create engaging content, but also is experienced at making the best use of the plethora of social media and expanding mobile platforms is a great win for our clients,” said Max Fose, President of IWS.

“We are pleased for our clients to have exposure to someone like David who understands clients’ complex communications needs,” IWS Creative Director and Executive Vice President Paul McKay. “David gets technology; he understands the role of good design, and he truly understands the need to integrate message, design and technology to produce effective communications.”

Haase comes to IWS from Virilion, a Washington, D.C. digital consulting firm, where he led the firm’s editorial services for the last six years, most recently as Practice Lead for Social Media and Content.

Mr. Haase started writing about the Internet in 1996, long before blogging was born, when he launched a pioneering newspaper column called Plugged-in Politics that was distributed nationwide by Knight Ridder/Tribune News Service. Plugged-in Politics examined how government organizations and campaigns were using the fledgling technology of the World Wide Web and email to deliver messages and sway opinion.

He became executive editor of National Journal Group’s Greenwire news and information service in 1999. During his tenure, he expanded its offerings and added new content until it was sold in 2000. He then served as editor in chief/director of publications of Executive Compensation Resources, a research service that focused on the compensation practices of executives at the very highest levels of corporate America.

Earlier, David spent 12 years covering Congress, politics and the White House as a Washington correspondent for Indianapolis Newspapers Inc., owner of The Indianapolis News and The Indianapolis Star. His political coverage included presidential nominating conventions, presidential debates and interviews and travels with presidential candidates.

IWS has spent the past 11 years moving with ease between politics and commercial marketing. In either venue, IWS’ strength remains the same: The ability to use the full spectrum of digital marketing strategies and applications to change users’ behavior.
